Who Am I? Who Am I?

Who Am I?

I am Marc Willems. And, yes, that is my normal face :-p

I'm an Aussie and I love tennis, but more specifically, I am a fan of Svetlana Kuznetsova. And, as I have since discovered, I am just one of the many millions around the world.

I started this website as a sort of electronic homage to a wonderfully gifted tennis player who never compromised her own integrity for the sake of success or mainstream popularity. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for many of her contemporaries and other sporting professionals of her generation.

I still remember my eyes being glued to the television screen on that fateful September day as I watched this fearless young Russian woman all but trounce her experienced compatriot Elena Dementieva in the 2004 US Open women's final to win her maiden grand slam title. Svetlana was more powerful, more accurate, more resilient, more athletic, more willing to take risks, and simply the far superior player on that day.

Although I did not create this website straight away, I did follow Sveta's progress and successes over the next couple of years. I found her determination, consistently solid performances and quirky personality so endearing that I was eventually inspired to brush-up on my (crappy) HTML coding skills and create the website which you are viewing today.

Having failed in my most recent quest to track down the Fountain of Youth, I continue to celebrate my birthday on an annual basis. Subsequently, I am older now. And slower. And lazier. And stupider. I am also a father and a married man which means I get nagged a lot.

But I sincerely hope, with all my heart, that I can continue to update and develop this site until the day when Svetlana decides she's had enough of this wacky tennis caper and finally says "farewell" to her pro career. Perhaps she will continue playing until she is 40? Or maybe she will hang up her racquet tomorrow? It is not for us to know. Only time will tell.

However, one thing is certain. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time keeping you all updated on Svetlana's matches and sharing the highs and lows with my fellow fans throughout the years. So thank you to each and every one of you who has visited, commented, complained, inquired, or simply said "What up?" to me during this period. All of you, from every part of the globe and from all walks of life, have taken this journey with me.

Svetlana Kuznetsova - Russian Tennis Star always was, and always will be, a free access website. It will never be used for profit. It will always stay true to the fans.

Because that is what Svetlana Kuznetsova has taught me.

Update: 18th March, 2016

G'day! I am Marc Willems, the owner and creator of Svetlana Kuznetsova - Russian Tennis Star.

Due to up-coming military commitments, it is with great sadness that I must inform you I will no longer be able to update my Svetlana Kuznetsova website, Twitter, and Facebook pages.

As such, I have decided to end my decade-long run at the helm of SK-RTS. Updates will cease at the conclusion of Sveta's involvement in the 2016 Miami Open (22nd March - 3rd April), which will also coincide with my own personal 10-year anniversary of being an ardent Sveta Fan.

Yes, 10 years! So many Sveta memories.

If you are looking for an alternative website which firmly supports Svetlana and her tennis, I can highly recommend the Focus On: Svetlana Kuznetsova websites on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and other places around the web.

So, to Svetlana Kuznetsova, the little website that could, and the people that did...

THANK YOU!!!

2006 Miami Open
